To me, the designs felt familiar to where I grew up: I could see in the patterns (which Rosen hand-draws, then screen-prints at her studio) the thin stalks of marsh grasses and the rivets waves make in wet sand.
Now, with her new collection Rosen does with Shaker design what she did with the New England landscape, inspired by the Hancock Shaker Village in western Massachusetts.

The first of the three designs is inspired by the wooden peg rails that lined Shaker rooms and held everything from clothing to chairs.
The Peg Rail wallpaper ($85 a yard; shown in natural) has a full-yard repeat and is “a graphic interpretation of the peg rail in action, complete with abstracted upside down chairs and Shaker style hangers.” Peg Rail is also available in off-black.
The Swallowtail pattern ($85 a yard; shown in off-black) is not named after the bird, but after “the wooden joint detail used on the Shaker’s infamous oval storage boxes.

Lastly, Rosen’s Garden wallpaper ($85 a yard), an homage to Shaker work in the garden and the fields, with “large, simplified painted shapes [that] mimic the landscape of vast gardens.”
