Prudent created a patchwork hearth using woven bamboo wallpapers, a stylish reference to the house’s origin as a barn. The kitchen table overlooks its open-air counterpart. Here, she created display shelves out of stacked vegetable crates. Rugged mixes well with refined: In the dining area, Prudent put a metal factory cart to use as a tea service table. “On rare Sundays in the Dijon antiquarian quarter, Brigitte Durieux sells her vintage kids’ treasures, a trove of items the likes of which you can hardly find elsewhere,” she says. Kids’ playthings are allowed out in the open—as long as they’re good-looking. The bedrooms in the house are cozily tucked under the rafters in what had been the hayloft. A floating bed frame under the eaves partitions off the sitting and sleeping sections of the master bedroom. The family bathtub stands next to an antique bureau stocked with towels and supplies.
