Steal This Look: Pastel Bright Living Room on Shelter Island - Remodelista
As we ease into spring on the East Coast, we’re admiring fashion buyer Lisa Jones’s Shelter Island living room, a summery mix of midcentury Danish and new Nordic design. We like the way Jones and husband James Hyatt updated their vintage furniture and sample sale finds with new upholstery and unique color combinations (colors inspired by Mexican architect Luis Barragán). “The inspiration behind the living room colors are from Luis Barragán combinations: pink, green, and yellow,” Jones says. A pale tangerine pillow, pink sofa, and two green armchairs (not pictured here) anchor the living room. Benjamin Moore’s Decorator’s White is a favorite among many architects (see 10 Easy Pieces: Architect’s White Paint Picks); $36.99 for a gallon of Ben Interior Paint. Jones found their Danish armchairs at Brimfield and had them reupholstered (see upholstery fabric below for the source). The Peter Hvidt & Orla Mølgaard Nielsen daybed, a flea market find, was given a facelift: The backboard was removed and the fabric reupholstered by Brooklyn interiors firm George & Martha. A similar version with blue fabric is the Nielsen Daybed on 1st Dibs or the Minerva Sofa with yellow fabric, also on 1st Dibs. The Hans Wegner CH338 Table seen in Jones’s kitchen was found at a Carl Hansen sample sale. It’s also available at Danish Design Store for $4,475.
