Shopper's Diary: Comfort and Calm at The Interior in Sag Harbor - Remodelista
Interior designer and stylist Stephanie Michaan’s shop, The Interior in seaside Sag Harbor, New York, offers accessories for the home—from books and candles to everyday dinnerware—that evoke a sense of calm.

You’ll need to seek her out, though; the shop, at 11 Bridge Street, is off the beaten path, but has become “a special little oasis in the middle of town. People are finding me and spreading the word, which has been exciting.”
In addition to her interior design services, Michaan offers art sourcing; artwork in several sizes is on display throughout the shop.
Among the store’s offerings: a cast stoneware Simple Dinnerware collection, including a Salad Plate ($28), Cereal Bowl ($24), and Low Bowl ($32).
On the shelf, a collection of Black and White 100.1 baskets made of nylon rope and cotton cord.
“I don’t think homes should be cluttered with things, so I really aim to buy items for the store that are functional, simple, and beautiful,” said Michaan.
On the floating shelf, left to right: an Araucana Bread Board, hand-carved from New England ash wood ($95), ILA Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Andalusia, Spain ($42), and ILA Sonoma Seal Salt ($35).
A linen Prism Cushion by Susan Connor is made in the US, inspired by Balinese jewelry and printed in the style of African mudcloth; $189 for a 22-inch-square pillow with down insert.
Made in Portugal, these Simple Storage Containers from Hawkins New York are made of dishwasher-safe glass with turned oak lids; $35 to $45 each.
Handmade Enso Rice Bowls by Klaycat Porcelain are $22 each.
When she decided to open a shop, Michaan knew she wanted to be in Sag Habor.
