Ridge and Furrow: A Design Couple’s Snug, Earthy House in the UK

Join us for a look at the Cotswolds home of Elle Kemp and Martin Gane, the UK couple behind design firm Ridge & Furrow. The reclaimed barn was only brick and stone walls and a mud floor when the couple found it; now, they've redone the interiors with sustainable, reclaimed materials and a muted, "muddy" palette.
“We did have to put in new doors and windows in order to be able to live comfortably,” says Elle, “though we kept all the beautiful old ones."
The couple found an old, time-worn stone sink for the dark-painted kitchen.
The couple used reclaimed bead board to create partitions and painted them in painted in Farrow & Ball’s Drab.
The snug is layered with antique rugs and filled with books.
The snug’s ceiling is painted in Little Greene’s Light Bronze Green.
The couple’s bedroom is a study in layers.
Elle painted the motif above the bath herself inspired by antique painted ceilings.
