Modern farmhouse kitchen by Sebastian Cox for deVol
Photography courtesy of deVol. The past can be used to design and make the future says English woodworker Sebastian Cox who says that his goal is to work without nostalgia or sentimentality... ...but with respectful inventiveness His results are spot on especially the farmhouse kitchen that he created in collaboration with the team at deVol UK specialists in modern classical kitchens The design is an ode to natural materials: copper, marble, and particularly wood: Cox uses sustainable hardwoods grown in England (and is ever on the alert for fallen trees “destined for the chipper”; he mills and kiln-dries in London.). A little bit barnyard, a little bit ballroom: a Rustic Oak Parquet Floor from deVol’s sister company, Floors of Stone, offers a lively counterpoint to the banded lines of the cabinet doors. Twin copper sinks feature Mayan Aged Brass Faucets made by Perrin & Rowe for deVOL: See The Perfectly Aged Kitchen Faucet. Unlike most deVol components, they’re available à la carte; £130 ($165.70) per set. A lineup of succulents and other plants bring color to the space, and a gridded skylight filters in a soft, natural light. The counter is honed Cararra. A glazed wall cupboard is detailed with a back of woven wood. The island is topped with mixed materials: oak at the prep end and patinated copper around the Smeg Domino cooktop and grill. A Smeg Linea oven and microwave, both 60 centimeters (23.6 inches), are integrated side by side into the island. The Sebastian Cox kitchen range is handmade in deVol’s Leicestershire workshop; prices start at £15,000 ($22,900).
