Kitchen Tour: A Soft Loft Cook Space in Portland, OR

When we first posted on this soft-colored loft in Portland’s Pearl District, the comments poured in: “Great feeling.” “Lovely, simple cabinets.” Today we’re taking a closer look at the kitchen, redone, in addition to the rest of the space, by Portland-based interior designer Jessica Helgerson.

Homeowner Pam Williams thought about vacating her worn-down loft apartment—until she saw another unit in the building that Helgerson had redone.

The kitchen mixes a custom concrete countertop and sink by Cement Elegance with Japanese-tiled backsplashes.

The palette? Pearly pinks and greys, and the original beams above got a wash of white.

The so-called “rainy day room” just opposite is raised slightly off the floor, with a built-in sofa-slash-guest bed and desk.
