Kitchen of the Week: The Upper East Side Kitchen of a "Girls" Director - Remodelista
When Tricia Brock, a director for HBO shows such as Girls, Breaking Bad, and Silicon Valley, bought her Upper East Side one-bedroom apartment in a prewar co-op building, it was dark and “had a schizophrenic feel,” according to her architects, Andrés Ulises Cortés and Sarrah Khan of Agencie. To remedy the situation, Cortés and Khan opened up the dark, L-shaped galley kitchen; working with Henrybuilt, they anchored the space with a small but functional island and added glamorous touches (a marble backsplash and brass-trimmed lighting via interior designer George Terbovich). The architects leveled the existing kitchen floor, which had been raised to allow for a drain line, and installed a wood floor, which they painted dark gray (Brock wanted to establish a kitchen zone to distinguish the space from the rest of the apartment, which has stained oak flooring). The service door to the left is one of the few remaining elements from the original kitchen, The faucet is a Waterworks Henry One Hole Gooseneck Kitchen Faucet in matte nickel. A pair of Sawkille Co. Bleached Maple Sickens Finish Bar Stools provides counter seating. Appliances include a Wolf 30-Inch E Series Transitional Built-In Oven, a Wolf 30-Inch Transitional Gas Cooktop, and a Futuro 32-Inch Insert Linervent Hood. On the cooktop is a Le Creuset Signature Round Dutch Oven in Flame and to the right a Dualit Cordless Jug Kettle. The refrigerator is concealed behind an integrated panel that disappears into built-in storage to the left.
