Kitchen of the Week: In Los Feliz, A Moody, Romantic Spanish Modern Update - Remodelista

Currently admiring: a kitchen remodel in the Los Feliz hills. Though they knew their personal styles well, the couple needed help, so they turned to Tamar Barnoon, an interior designer with a background in set design, to lead the overhaul.
The beamed ceilings are original to the house, but Barnoon had the original wood paneling and exposed lighting removed.
The countertops are white marble and the floor tile is basalt with black marble accents and trim.
Barnoon modernized the kitchen in part by taking advantage of its sweeping views.
The star of the kitchen is custom oak cabinetry by EB Joinery.
One of Barnoon’s favorite features is an appliance garage built into the right side of the wall cabinet.
The couple loathed an existing built-in seating nook but liked sitting by the windows for breakfast. Barnoon replaced the built-in with a custom oak table and matching benches of her own design, fabricated by EB Joinery.
The counter barstools are by EB Joinery; the designer plans to offer them for sale on her site before the end of the year. Both the dining table and chandelier are vintage: The table is from Spain and the light fixture is by French design house Arlus.
A built-in storage niche holds display-worthy spices and kitchen wares.
The table in the dining nook has a black marble surface.
The hefty cabinet pulls are solid bronze.

Before
Pre-renovation, the kitchen was dark and dated, with a “French country” feel.
The designer had the back wall removed completely to open the kitchen to the dining room.
