Kitchen of the Week: An Award-Winning deVOL Project With a Heart of Darkness
Our love for light-filled, airy interiors is well-documented, but every once in a while, we encounter moody, sexy spaces that tempt us to the dark side—like this culinary lair from deVOL designed for a couple who live in Petersham, a small village on the Thames, not far from London.

The walls, cabinets, and ceiling were all painted in Pantry Blue, one of deVOL’s most popular colors.
The central island is an old vintage piece painted in the same hue as the cabinets.
Most of the kitchen is newly built, but the wood fireplace mantel over the cast iron Esse stove is original to the home.
The clients opted for cabinets from deVOL’s Real Shaker Kitchen line and Bella Brass hardware.
Appliances are incognito behind the Real Shaker cabinet doors for a seamless look.
The counters are made of iroko, a durable hardwood from Africa.
Simple jars filled with breakfast essentials occupy a small open-shelving corner pantry.
