Housed in a historic five-story warehouse in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood, the Robey Hall (sister hotel to the Robey hotel situated next door) is a hostel-like boutique hotel that encourages guests to interact with one another via social media before their stays.
Inviting circular upholstered seating covered in green leather surrounds structural columns in the Robey Hall’s lobby.
Designers Ciguë and Delordinaire stripped the walls for an industrial vibe. A long, custom-built table acts as a coffee counter and workstation.
While the rooms of the hotel are utilitarian, the lobby and common areas have an air of grandeur due to the oversize windows and lofty ceilings.
Delordinaire custom-built most of the guest-room furnishings—the beds are made from birch plywood supported by black steel piping, minimal wall lights, black-painted lockers (acting like closets and storage), and steel ladders are used to access the upper sleeping spaces.
Exposed conduits connect the light fixtures.
Floating built-in bunkbeds are supported by steel piping.
A raw guest space has a floating wooden bench running along the entire guest-room wall.
The guest bathrooms have utilitarian Alape Bucket Sinks from Germany with black fixtures.
