Hotels & Lodging: Casa Bonay in Barcelona - Remodelista

After working several years with the creative group behind the Ace Hotel in New York City, Inés Miró-Sans returned to Barcelona to open a lifestyle hotel inspired by her hometown. While searching for the ideal venue Miró Sans and her cofounder Luis Rullán a famous Barcelona hotelier came across Casa... ...Bonay a 19th century mansion originally built for the Bonay family located in the neighborhood of Dreta de l Eixample Two marble tubs (original to the building) are used as planters at the entrance of Casa Bonay. Studio Tack preserved original classical features of the building, such as arched entryways, a marble staircase, mosaic flooring, stained glass windows, sliding doors, and glassed-in balconies. Libertine, the hotel’s bar and lounge area, is painted in two shades of green; the floors are original mosaic tile. The Cirio Circular Pendant by Santa & Cole (a Barcelona-based lighting company that provided lighting for the entire hotel) makes a stately impression in the bar area. The hotel’s inner courtyard was revived by careful renovation. She also installed a herbal garden on the hotel’s rooftop. To maintain the original spirit of Casa Bonay, all the room numbers are hand-painted by local artists. A guest room with original mosaic floor tiles, sliding doors, and a glassed-in balcony. A simple guest bedroom with two-toned walls and original tiled flooring. The guest bathrooms have a retro feel and are equipped with rosemary and olive oil soap made by Ana Gayoso of Las Lilas. A light-filled room featuring a separate seating area and a pullout sofa. Clara Arnús and Leti Cano, two creative Spaniards behind the brand Batabasta, designed the pattern for the staff uniforms, sofas and pillows, and wallpaper for the bathrooms in the hotel’s Libertine lounge area. Tucked behind carved wooden doors is Casa Bonay’s own library, curated by independent local publisher Blackie Books. Miró-Sans invited young entrepreneurs to open shop on the hotel’s premises: Satan’s Coffee Corner and Mother (a cold-pressed juice bar) serve drinks and baked goods.
