As the new companion of a rescued, toothless dog, I’ve been pleased to discover a selection of well-designed (read: not garish) canine essentials.
For dog owners and hopeful dog owners alike, we like the charming Incomplete Book of Dog Names, handmade by a press in New England, featuring names of “actual creatures now living, either in the flesh or in memory.” It’s $7.95 from the OrangeArt Store.
German brush company Redecker also makes canine-friendly goods: Their Dog Brush has wooden pins on one side and bristles on the other; $28 via The Line.
The sturdy Found My Animal Natural Rope Leash ($92.95 from Old Faithful Shop) is made in the US and inspired by fishermen’s gear, with marine-grade rope and brass hardware.
I am coveting the Grey Enamel Dog Bowl with a Lid, among the more attractive options I’ve seen. It’s lightweight and durable, and the enamel cover easily stores leftovers (for the rare dog who doesn’t finish his dinner).
A comic surprise for the table: painted Japanese Dog Rice Bowls are $12 each from Nickey Kehoe; choose from pug, Labrador, poodle, or chihuahua.
A bar of Shampoo for Dogs, made with vegetable oils, herbs, essentials oils and lye, is €10.50 ($12.39) from Manufactum.
