Take a look at Bess Piergrossi's DIY laundry rack, made by hand in her Maine farmhouse—complete with charming, old-fashioned scenes of hand-stretching rope by the hearth and singeing rope ends in candle flames.
1. Singe the ends of a length of rope.
2. Boil the rope, for softness.
4. Oil the rope (with melted coconut oil).
5. Have brackets made (by a local metal fabricator or blacksmith).
7. Cut into slats.
8. Place the slats.
9. Tie and hang.
10. Done!
