It’s 2024, and we’re here to report that the Sink Skirt Revival, as Fan dubbed it five years ago, is still going strong. At Glebe House, A Guest House and Restaurant in Rural Devon, UK, an ochre linen curtain wraps around a vintage marble sink (a lucky Facebook Marketplace find). In her Maplewood, New Jersey design studio, Hollie Velten-Lattrell wanted “something offbeat and cartoonish as an antidote to the traditional sink skirt.” The chartreuse one she chose matches the lemony zellige tiles. A neutral—and upcycled—example, courtesy of designer Charles de Lisle. A sink skirt—particularly when pleated and in a bold shade—can transform even the most basic of sinks, as evidenced at Hotel des Academies et des Arts in Paris. In this petite bath in A Soulful, Timeless Apartment by Studio Dorion in Brooklyn Heights, Peter Dolkas, one half of Studio Dorion, retiled the room (“with inexpensive subway tiles from Nemo”) and then simply added a striped duster skirt to the original sink. Fabric scraps are put to clever reuse all over The Waldoboro Inn in Maine, including here, on a more-is-more sink skirt and stitched-together curtains.
