An Innovative House in LA with Interiors by an of-the-Moment Design Firm - Remodelista

Blackbirds, a cluster of 18 Barbara Bestor–designed homes situated in the hills of Echo Park, is one of the more inventive residential projects to pop up in Los Angeles in recent years. When we happened upon a Blackbirds house with interiors by of-the-moment LA firm ETC.etera, we were curious to find out the backstory, so we emailed Jake Harrison, a partner in the firm. The pendant over the dining table is from LA-based Robert Lewis Studio and is available through Lawson-Fenning. “The dining table and chairs, which we ebonized, are vintage from Midcentury LA,” Harrison says. The leather sling chairs and the kilim are vintage; the ivory Jute Boucle Rug is from West Elm. The brass Bermuda Coffee Table is by LA-based furniture maker Sean Woolsey. The countertops and backsplash are Calacatta marble (for more on the subject, see Remodeling 101: Marble Countertops). The kitchen cabinets have raw wood pulls, which contrast with the sleek white cabinet fronts. The open-shelf wall functions as a room divider; the pottery on display is vintage, collected from flea markets. The textile artwork above the bed is from Land, a collaboration between Caleb Owen Everitt and Ryan Rhodes. The master bedroom opens onto a deck furnished with pieces from Room & Board’s Laguna collection.
