An Architect's Holiday House in Hydra - Remodelista

Theodore Zouboulakis, a member of a well-known Athens art-dealing family, designed his own holiday retreat on the island of Hydra, merging traditional Greek architecture with industrial elements (think: stucco meets steel). Zoumboulakis studied architecture at the National Technical University of Athens and received a masters of architecture at UCLA; he works with Hermes in Paris and has also designed all the spaces for the Zoumboulakis Galleries. Zouboulakis’ waterfront house is located in the village of Vlykos on the island of Hydra. A shaded patio overlooking the sea. Zouboulakis used concrete counters and stainless appliances in the kitchen. A reclaimed marble basin serves as the kitchen sink. Kitchen essentials are suspended from a rail mounted on the vent hood. Zouboulakis devised an open-plan interior, merging the living and dining spaces. A sofa covered in nautical blue and white stripes anchors the living room. A Chair One with Concrete Base by Konstantic Grcic for Magis contrasts with an antique sideboard. Another view of the living room. Zouboulakis’ steel staircase adds a modern note to the interior.
