5 Ideas to Steal from Hôtel des Académies et des Arts in Paris

Once home to Modigliani (and his studio on the top floor), Hôtel des Académies et des Arts is now a hotel and open-to-all artist workspace with 20 “large poetic rooms,” all redone by Paris-based architecture studio Lizée Hugot. Take a look at few of the artist atelier-inspired elements.

1. Add nails: Iron nails border the tops of most rooms for hanging paintings ad hoc, inspired, the hotel says, by Van Gogh’s Chambre du Peintre.

2. Employ sculptural furnishings: The cafe atelier has custom wooden tables and banquettes

3. Add murals: Ceilings throughout the hotel feature frescoes by artist Franck Lebraly.

4. Hang a sink skirt: A pleated skirt adds bold glamour to the bath.

5 Paint built-ins: The bibliothèque has furnishings with a lived-in feel.
