Beautiful vintage textiles from Mauritania, mixed with supple suedes make this zip pouch unique. The Fulani are a small tribe of African people that have honed their craft of handweaving over centuries. All textiles are sourced in a fair trade manner, and proceeds go back to the weavers to encourage the younger generation to continue the craft. The supple suede and hair-on-hide leathers are chosen for their rich hues, and sourced from California, Brazil, and France.
This gorgeous textile used in this piece is scarce and highly valued, as only a few village families are still producing them in the traditional way. Each piece, made of cotton, was painstakingly handspun, colored with natural plant dyes, then woven by hand on rugged tree looms.
This zip pouch was handmade in San Francisco, using Fulani textiles and locally sourced suede leather. Fits glasses, money, phones, pencils, etc. Makes for a perfect gift.
