Description from Nest
The iconic Akari lights were first designed in the early 1950s by American/Japanese artist Isamu Noguchi.
During Noguchi’s design process, a total of over 100 hand-made Shoji-paper models for his lighting collection were created. Noguchi chose the name ‘akari’, as this word connotes brightness and light in his native Japanese.
The Akari XP1 Table Lamp is created from washi paper and bamboo ribbing and is supported by a metal frame. The lamp accommodates up to a 40 watt bulb.
