Inspired by architectural details found within the Old City in Jaipur and block printed by hand in Sanganer, a district on the outskirts of the city, by master printer Sultan Ji and his apprentices. In this colour-way, we’ve paired red and pink on mid-weight organic linen in illusion blue. An easygoing, all over repeat.
Once the fabric is pinned onto the printing table and the colours are mixed, the meticulous process of block printing begins. Our Stepwell design is made up of two wooden blocks, which have been carved by hand. Beginning at one end of the printing table, the first block is dipped into a colour and then pressed firmly into the fabric. This process is repeated over and over until they reach the other end of the printing table. Once dry enough to handle, another artisan follows behind applying the second block atop of the first.
