Description from Design Within Reach
The Standard SP (2013), or Siége en Plastique, introduces a new material to the iconic steel and wood chair designed by Jean Prouvé in 1934. A project that began in 2002, the SP is the result of a special collaboration between Vitra and the Prouvé family. By making use of today’s materials, the SP continues the designer’s goal to unite functional requirements, honest use of materials and economical concerns with the unique demands of mass production. In other words, it’s still an authentic Prouvé chair, but at a lower price than the Standard Chair with wood seat and back. Whether creating letter openers, doorknobs, furniture or prefab houses, Prouvé strove for the most efficient designs, with such classic end results as his Standard Chair. Suitable for residential and commercial use. Made in Germany.
