Description from Plain English
The architectural and furniture styles of the 18th century middle classes reached their apotheosis in the merchant houses of Spitalfields. It was from these beautifully preserved buildings near Plain English’s Hoxton Square showroom that the inspiration for The Spitalfields Kitchen came.
This style is characterised by its drawer rails and cupboard facades that run to the floor. With numerous door styles, named after streets in Spitalfields, it is possible to create an elegant country house kitchen, a traditional cottage kitchen or even a contemporary loft kitchen from the Spitalfields cupboards.
Before choosing a kitchen check that plinths are an integral part of the cupboard frame, not fixed on after the cupboards have been fitted. The latter is the modern way to install cupboards quickly, the former demands scribing along the floor by skilled fitters.
