Description from Garden Life

Opuntia microdays, native to South America, is one of the more popular cacti known as “Prickly Pears”. Shrub- forming with oval joints that are densely covered with short golden spines known as “glochids”. Take care not to touch “glochids” (“dots” of minute spines that detach readily and can cause irritation to the skin and eyes). Flowers are lemon yellow to 3″ in diameter, usually appearing in late spring or summer. Requires porous cactus soil with adequate drainage. Prefers bright light with ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Protect from frost.
