Description from The New Craftsmen
Large Oblong Serving Dish (Turkey) by slipware ceramicist Hannah McAndrew. Made from a rich, thick earthenware clay and featuring a contrasting yellow slip decoration.
Perhaps one of the oldest and most vibrant of the English folk pottery traditions, slipware is a highly decorative form of pottery created using slip (liquid clay typically of contrasting colours). This liquid is poured, trailed and painted onto the surface of the piece before firing. Created using a traditional mould by renowned British potter Michael Cardew, these slipware dishes by Hannah – handmade and fired in her studio – have been decorated with a expressive, rippled border and the word “Turkey” in the centre. Suitable as a decorative or functional dish.
