Product Information
So dynamic it appears ready to pounce at a moment’s notice. Designed in 1951 by Bernard Schottlander, the Mantis BS2 Mini Wall Sconce from DCW Editions poetically suggests its name with an abstracted composition heightened by its calm sense of tension. An admirer of Alexander Calder, Schottlander infuses the gravity-defying qualities of balance and abstraction into this piece. Schottlander sets himself apart with a focus on movement. He illustrates this with an intriguing counterweight system of angled metal rods and a chain-link. The swiveling and height-adjustable arm leans forward in a true mantis pose. Hand fabricated from aluminum using spinning and chasing techniques, the shade perched on top adds calm to the piece in its soft, flowing shape. When turned on, a beautiful spread of warm light exits the shade for task or ambiance purposes.
Founded in 2008 but reproducing iconic products from throughout history, DCW éditions has consistently delivered in merging the old with the new. Utilizing classic shapes in a new way, this French designer company strives to create pieces that possess both enduring design and quality. Their mission is to gather inspiration from the past and look to the future, creating products that are utilitarian and stylish in the present.
