Description from The New Craftsmen
Lacquered ‘Plank’ Settle by Sue Skeen for The New Craftsmen. A modern interpretation of the old English settle, with a deep seat and a high back giving an inviting sense of enclosure. Part of a furniture collection “Common Parts” launched during London Design Festival 2017.
The ‘Plank’ is a modern interpretation of the old English settle, a bench seat originally found in pubs and churches, and designed to protect against cold drafts.
The settle is available in 3 sizes (1.2m, 1.8m and 2.4m) and three raw or sealed wood finishes (Oak, Ash or Douglas fir). A hand-lacquered finish by historical paint and lacquer specialist Pedro da Costa Felguieras. Utilising his specialist skills, Pedro will create a one-off art piece unique to the customers specifications, for example (as depicted) a giant faux wood grain effect.
