Description from Howe London
A simple and classic ‘Shaker-style’ wardrobe, with panelled doors and sides, traditionally handmade in solid Douglas fir, fitted with hand-forged ironmongery.
Designed to easily dismantle or ‘knock-down’ in the same practical way the French conceived their ‘armoires’ in the C18th & C19th and reminiscent of military campaign furniture intended to uphold a degree of home comfort for officers travelling abroad.
The panels are held together simply and securely with beech pegs, which can be removed so that the wardrobe easily dismantles and can be ‘flat-packed’ in order to fit through narrow spaces, up windy stairs with ease and transported at less expense.
Inside you have the option of adjustable hanging rails or shelves, also constructed in solid wood and supported on wooden slats.
We have chosen to mount the doors on beautiful blacksmith-made, lift-off hinges but you can also choose to have a simple concealed hinge.
The wardrobes can be made to your specific measurements and painted in a colour of your choice.
