Henley Brands was named after B. Henley, a midwesterner who grew up in Indiana and attending Oxford on a rowing scholarship in 1939. He arrived a month before Germany invaded Poland, initiating World War II in Europe. Since, he had flown crop dusters on his Grandfather’s farm, he postponed school, and joined the war as a Spitfire pilot. After a distinguished military career, he finished his education and worked part time in a haberdashery in London on the famous Bond Street. There he learned to appreciate the attention to detail and practicality found in the Henley Brands today. When he returned to the US, he teamed with talented Geologists and pioneered methods of core sampling and studied geological history. As a professor of geology, he has lead expeditions all over the world and still lectures today.
