Description from Matter
KEIL stands for wedge. The technical principle behind the “wedge” concept is an artisan’s method to join components by locking them together using a wedge. Daniel Heer utilizes this method to combine wood and leather without glue or nails and translates it into a series of furniture – the KEIL Stool, Daybed and Table.
In the Keil Daybed, Heer continues a long-standing tradition of leather and horsehair craftsmanship, made by four generations since 1907. Filled with the finest Swiss horsehair and enclosed in a layer of superfine virgin sheep’s wool gathered from free-range sheep in southern France, each mattress is then stitched by hand in Heer’s Berlin studio. Genuine horsehair is regarded as one of the finest mattress padding materials for its optimal moisture absorption, breathability, durability and extraordinary elasticity. Made without any metal parts, synthetic fibers or glue, this piece is natural to the core. Also available in smoked oak and walnut (contact Matter for pricing)
