Description from Design Within Reach
Designers Stephanie Beamer, Crystal Ellis and Hillary Petrie founded their design studio Egg Collective in 2011. Based in Brooklyn, the designers create furniture, lighting and accessories that evoke their personal histories and draw upon memories of families and friends. Their Harvey Mirror (2013) was named after aeronautical engineer Thomas Harvey, who is Ellis’ grandfather. Appearing to float in space, the mirror is a nod to his stories about building rockets and sending astronauts to the moon. Egg Collective’s honors include the Best New Designer award at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in 2012 and inclusion on Forbes magazine’s “30 Under 30” list for 2014. The trio was also commissioned to design a seating area for the New York City Ballet’s David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. Made by hand, the brass frame exhibits the minor pitting and irregularities typical of the casting process. It can be waxed to maintain a new brass look or left alone to develop a beautiful patina. Frame made in India.
