French style cutting board or chopping board hand made from reclaimed oak
The design for this board was taken from one of my antique French boards. I took a pattern from it and my husband cut and made it from a piece of vintage French oak (1930’s) sourced near us in the Languedoc region.
We reclaim our wood from old French farmhouse tables and use the tops to recreate our boards. I have original old French cutting boards that have been made out of old planks and other items and have marks where hinges would have been. I like to think we are carrying on this practice of up-cycling genuine old wooden items.
The old timber has some ancient woodworm holes, the worm is long gone and we have not treated it with any chemicals.
The board is finished with mineral oil which is food safe.
Each board is part of a limited edition due to the limitations in size of the old wood we source. This one is labelled IIXX.
It has a lovely patina from the age of the oak we have used and it is finished with a piece of vintage string for hanging.
