A heat formed and bound rattan cane hanger from Finland, hand produced by the crafts people of a Vaanta based visually impaired workers co-operative. Rattan is a kind of climbing palm or vine the cultivation of which is being encouraged by some conservationists as a means of preserving the forest growth on which it thrives. Obviously the commercialisation of any old growth forest is to varying degrees problematic, but rattan is being utilised as a means to prevent the far more devastating logging that would otherwise occur. Approximately 56cm by 24cm.
