Description from Les Indiennes
Indigo Ikats Fabric from Les Indiennes
Ikats are completely made by hand. It is a style of weaving that uses a resist dyeing process simliar to tie-dye on either the warp or weft before the threads are woven to create a pattern or design. The process involves the dyeing of small bundles of yarn in specific places before the fabric is woven, thus the pattern slowly emerges as each thread is positioned into the cloth. The Ikat is the most meticulous and laborious method of weaving fabric.
