Description from Vermont Bowl Company
There is a woodworking shop where, using machines over a 100 years old, craftspeople cut these historic wooden bowls from massive blocks of hardwoods. Gnarled hands load the blocks onto the spinning lathes and guide the specially shaped knives so that bowl after bowl in ever increasing sizes is wrested from the heart of the tree. For many years we have been proud to retail bowls such as these in our stores and now we are offering them on our website. Because they come straight from the tree they have all the individuality so often sawn out or selected out. The darker wood you see in a bowl is the old heartwood and the lighter is the sapwood which is to the outside of the tree. If you are looking for a plastic uniformity, don’t bother with these bowls. These wooden bowls are nature in true display. After the bowls are cut to shape they are very carefully dried, then sanded smooth and when they arrive to us we give them a special oil finish. The bowls are not truly round but become somewhat elliptical as they dry. Three wood species; American Beech, Black Walnut, and Cherry.
Prices range from $35.00 to $148.00
