Designed by Maarten Baas in 2006 and made by hand in his studio in the Netherlands.
His Clay Furniture collection was introduced at Salone del Mobile, Milan, 2006.
Clay Furniture address the issue of form-giving in industrial design, revealing, literally, the designer’s ‘hand’ in this intimate process, today normally concealed through the use of a computer (but there, none-the-less).
The Clay dining chair is part of the permanent collections of the Stedelijk Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Vitra Museum.
- Materials: Industrial clay, hand-modeled on top of Baas-designed metal ‘skeletons’ surface painted with colored lacquer.
- Dimensions variable: seat width: 14″, seat depth: approx. 13″, back height: varies from 26-29″ seat height varies from 16.5″ to 18″
