Description from Anthropologie
Cheyne Sofa, Mulberry
Created by London-based design team Clarke & Reilly, this overstuffed two-seater is a stunning amalgam of beauty and sustainability. Covered in swathes of vintage linen that have been colored with all-natural dye derived from crushed walnut shells, the fabric will fade slightly over time, which only adds to the character of the piece. The carved hardwood legs are covered in natural stain or slick lacquer using the 18th century European process of “Japanning,” a labor-intensive but longer-lasting method of finishing wood, then affixed with rolling casters at the front. It takes eight people to handcraft each of these pieces, ensuring an enduring quality that will be enjoyed for years, if not generations, to come.
