Description from Green Mountain Soapstone

Care Soapstone Countertops, Backsplashes and Islands

Soapstone is a perfect choice for countertops, backsplashes, sinks with drainboards, and islands. Its’ durable and quite dense surface possesses all the beauty of granite or marble, with none of the drawbacks. Soapstone is inert. This means that acids and alkalis won’t etch soapstone as they will other stone surfaces. It is also impervious to temperature changes. Green Mountain Soapstone is available in exceptionally long and wide slab sizes, and standard, easier to handle 30″ wide slabs. Soapstone seams can be made tight, smooth and inconspicuous. Soapstone may also be cut to size on the job site or in the shop with conventional wood and masonry cutting and finishing tools.

Prices vary and are comparable to granite, running between $50 and $90 a square foot.
