Stainless steel corkscrew bottle opener. Solid bronze ring-shaped handle is naturally ergonomic. Designed by an award-winning designer and made by a small, family-owned company in northern Greece.

This simple but striking corkscrew was created by award-winning designer Athanasios Babalis and manufactured by a small, family-operated workshop in Northern Greece. The circular handle of the wine bottle opener is naturally ergonomic and constructed of solid bronze, while the corkscrew is made of stainless steel. You’ll feel the controlled curves and sinews of the circle-ring top each time you twist the base into a cork to open a bottle of wine. For the designer, the circle shape represents unity, wholeness and infinity.

Use & Care

Clean the bottle opener by hand using a dry or slightly moist cotton towel. Dry thoroughly after cleaning.

This corkscrew should not be cleaned with soap, steel wool or any other abrasive, and is not to be placed in the dishwasher. 

Contact with the natural oils from your hand on the brass ring will create a unique patina over time. If you would like to restore the original sheen, a brass polish applied with a soft cloth will do the trick. 

Production & Design

Award-winning designers Athanasios Babalis and Constantinos Hoursoglou–both born in Greece and now working in Thessaloniki, Greece and Geneva, Switzerland, respectively–teamed together to create Shibui, a home and office accessories line. Named after the Japanese word for simple, subtle beauty, Shibui blends organic and geometric shapes to create functional, elegant wares.

Shibui is committed to working with small, independent producers to create products that are made to last. The bronze circle in this corkscrew is produced by a family-owned workshop in northern Greece using local bronze. The stainless steel portion is sourced from a small company in Germany with a long tradition of corkscrew production. To create the opener, a tube of solid bronze is sized and sculpted by hand on a lathe. A hole is drilled by hand, and then the entirety of the ring is polished to a satin finish. Finally, the corkscrew is attached to the ring.
