Description from Permanent Collection
The stunning Blunk Bangle features a perfectly cylindrical solid 14k recycled gold band fitted with a sliding charm. Crafted by hand in Helena, Montana, this bracelet is cast from a unique piece of jewelry made in 1965 by the legendary Northern Californian artist J.B. Blunk. The original, composed of 18k gold, was a gift for Jacqueline Johnson, a writer and poet, and the wife of the British-born Surrealist painter Gordon Onslow Ford. As much a piece of wearable kinetic sculpture as it is an example of fine jewelry-making, the Blunk Bangle feels at once ancient and utterly contemporary – you won’t find anything else quite like it. Blunk began making jewelry in 1954 at Palos Verdes College in Los Angeles where he taught ceramics – he continued to make special, one-off pieces throughout his life from his studio in Inverness, California.
Permanent Collection selected this bracelet, as well as the Blunk Double Hoop Earrings in Collection Two, to be faithfully reproduced in exceptionally limited quantities so that Blunk’s beautiful and rare designs could become part of the collections of a new generation of women.
