The wood items in Blackcreek Mercantile & Trading Co.’s blackline collection utilize a natural reactive process which gives them their distinctive dark finish. This unique technique makes use of the tannic acid inherent in white oak to develop a deep, durable, food-safe dye; the source of which comes from within the wood itself. As with most natural processes, some variation in color is to be expected. Natural dyes will “wear” over time developing a rich patina that is special to the object and how it is being used. Each piece is cut from a single piece of wood and produced in limited batches that maximize material and minimize waste. This means that dimensions and wood types may vary depending on availability.
Blackcreek Mercantile & Trading Company only uses domestic hardwoods that are sustainably harvested. The bent spatula comes tempered and refinished. Each tool Josh Vogel creates celebrates a more comfortable connection with daily chores and the love that goes into a home cooked meal.
