Product Information
4 unique and beautiful Viborg Dala horses, named after a small village in Dalarna, Sweden. Hand-carved from a single piece of wood and individually decorated in the rich traditional patterns of flowers and flourishes which are based on the very old forms of peasant “kurbits” painting.
The earliest reference of wooden horses for sale is from 1624, nearly 400 years ago. Decorated toy horses were being sold from some of the villages of Mora as early as the first half of the 19th century. Loggers spent long periods in the forest and carved Dala horse in the evenings by the log fire, as a present to bring their children back home. In modern times, the Dala horse has become a symbol of Dalarna, as well as of Sweden in general.
