Legendary Belgian architect/designer Vincent Van Duysen first captured our attention 13 years ago, and since then we’ve followed as the world has fallen under his influence. Big-box retailers want to imitate him; celebrities and the design-minded want to incorporate his minimal/rustic look into their own places (see: 20 Questions: Julianne Moore and Vincent Van Duysen Talk Design). Oh, and design editors do, too.
Which is why we were delighted to see the architect’s collections for Zara Home, offering his organic forms and subdued, earthy materials (charred wood, chalky plaster, linen) at a (comparatively) approachable price. No imitations here.
His third and latest collection recently launched, with pieces designed to be used throughout the house. Have a look at a few highlights:

Above: The collection’s POV? “When one’s surroundings are unrestricted, so too is the spirit.” The linen Sofa 01 (left) is made in Spain of solid wood with down and a removable covering (from $6,600). Also shown are two of the angular, minimal Lounge Chair 02 (center/right), made in Portugal of thermo-treated ash wood ($1,400). “Pieces made from this wood may initially have a slight scent, characteristic of the noble wood,” according to the retailer. Above: The oak Table 01 is made in Spain and finished with a wax coating “that ensures the look and texture is as respectful as possible with the raw material….The wood changes over time becoming a unique piece” (from $4,300). Alongside: the Stool 02 ($799). Note the gently curved seat, :made from the same leather used for saddles.” Above: The Daybed 01 ($3,200). “Linen cushions can be removed, effortlessly transforming the solid oak frame into a coffee table or entry bench, while generous proportions and clean lines create an invitation to sit and share a conversation,” according to the retailer. Above: “Among Vincent Van Duysen’s favorite pieces, this area rug stands out, a reinterpretation of a design from his home in Antwerp. ” The kilim Rug 03 is woven in India (from $949). Above: The Desk 02 is made from “noble woods” and Campaspero stone ($4,300). Above: “This wooden chaise longue is reminscent of the chair Vincent Van Duysen used to have in his old Antwerp apartment,” according to the retailer. The oil-finished oak frame is suitable for use outdoors, too (minus the quilted topper). The Chaise Longue 01 is $4,000. Above: Another look at the desk and versatile stool (with a small storage shelf beneath the seat). Above: To browse the full collection—including smaller items like objects and textiles—head here.
