When it comes to interiors, there’s a balance we strive for: We want the pieces in our homes to not just fill space but to serve a purpose. Enter Unison, where this philosophy is evident in every object they offer, with pieces that don’t just sit pretty but also serve and elevate your living space.
Unison started as a simple idea: Why can’t the things we own do more than one thing? Why can’t they be both functional and beautiful, both modern and timeless? It all began in 1999 while co-founders Robert and Alicia Segal were living in Finland: where the Scandinavian appreciation for simple, well-crafted design left a lasting impression. Inspired by this culture of quality and simplicity, they returned to Chicago and started Unison in 2006, drawing on these values to create their first collection of textiles. Today, that collection has evolved into a wide array of home goods, each with the same commitment to thoughtful, timeless design, from Japanese ceramics to locally sewn fabric. Every object is made with purpose and versatility in mind, from bold, graphic bedding to understated dinnerware.
Sustainability is also at the heart of Unison’s wares. In a world where fast fashion and disposable goods dominate, the Unison team designs for longevity, using natural materials like wool, cotton, and ceramic. They also work with and prioritize sustainable partners who share those values, and their offerings have earned sustainable seals of approval, from the Forest Stewardship Council certification on their wood products or the Oeko-Tex certification ensuring their bedding is free of harmful chemicals.
Ahead, five functional, design-forward pieces we’re coveting for all over the house:
