Object of Desire: Forged Iron Homewares, As Seen In Stissing House

November 19, 2024

This just in from chef, writer, and style-maker Clare de Boer: a slim forged-iron martini table and iron fireplace tools that look straight out of ye olden days. Originally designed for Stissing House—the sumptuously rustic, cozy tavern Clare runs in Pine Plains, NY—the offerings are now available via Roseland, the small-batch furniture co. she founded with her husband Luke Sherwin. One step closer to our dream of living inside Stissing House.

Have a look:

Above: The lithe Stissing Martini Table ($390) is hand-forged in Maine at Black Dog Ironworks (which featured in our Remodelista in Maine book). Modeled after an 18th century table at the Henry Francis du Pont Winterthur museum in Delaware, it’s “forged in 1800 degree heat, then worked with hammer and anvil”. It takes over five hundred strikes to complete, then is finished with linseed oil.
the stissing fire tools are &#8\2\20;inspired by \18th and \19th century 18
Above: The Stissing Fire Tools are “inspired by 18th- and 19th- century ironwork found in the Index of American Design”. The shovel and poker are $390 for the set, and a pair of andirons are $430. The table and tools mark the first offerings from Roseland not made from American hardwoods; for more of the collection, see Roseland, a New Furniture Co. from Clare de Boer.

And for a closer look at the offerings, head to Roseland. Plus, see our Quick Takes with Clare here.
