When Daphne Javitch and Pali Xisto Cornelsen bought their apartment in New York’s Lower East Side, “the kitchen was in good shape with new appliances,” Javitch says. But it was painted black, and Javitch skews toward white and neutrals. Javitch and Cornelsen transformed the space by painting the cabinets, swapping out the dated granite countertops for butcher block and Corian surfaces, and adding custom shelves.
