In Maine, no summer bedroom is complete without a quilt to pull up should the fog roll in or the air turn cool. Our favorite Maine-made quilts come from Smith’s General in Yarmouth, where founder Dash Mashland and her team make heritage-stitched, modern-patterned bed coverings. (The quilts are also one of the essential products featured in The Maine 30 in our new book, Remodelista in Maine, out this week from Artisan Books).

Above: A slate beach at the end of a Maine island was Dash’s inspiration for the Madeleine Quilt (from $285). “I spent many twilight hours here during my formative years, skipping almost unnaturally flat rocks and absorbing the last colors of the day,” she writes on the Smith’s General site. The quilt is stitched from linen and cotton, “strong yet gentle and entwined with the simplicity of coastal evenings.” Above: The Winslow Quilt (from $275), whose “warm golden yellow evokes a sweet reminder of fresh wood, salty breezes, and summer days spent by the sea.” Like many of the offerings from Smith’s General, the quilt comes in five sizes: little, throw, twin, queen, and king.
