Stitched Goods for the Sentimentalist, from Scarlette Ateliers

A win for long-distance love: Scarlette Ateliers is “a love story between croissant and paratha, pot-au-feu and butter chicken, Paris and New Delhi.”

It began when founder Pauline Bijvoet moved from France to New Delhi “in the suitcases of a Parisian fashion designer,” according to the Scarlette story, “and followed her everywhere, between looms, supplier appointments, cotton markets, printers, tables under mango trees.” Early on, Pauline’s bed linens were meant for guests who stayed the night in her place, but she was “quickly asked to leave with it, the pillowcases nestling in the luggage.”

And so Scarlette was born: a collection of sleepwear, bed linen, and stitched handkerchiefs and pouches, “designed with love and respect for the gestures, the families who take them out of the threads, and ancestral traditions.” Here, three finds that piqued our interest:

Above: Who among us couldn’t use a handkerchief on hand? These cotton designs are stitched with Love and Happiness (among other wishes); €18 each.
