Shopper’s Diary: Birch San Francisco

January 29, 2010

Torryn Choate is the owner and creative genius behind San Francisco’s most compelling flower shop, Birch (there are two locations, one on Sacramento Street and one in Hayes Valley). Her selection of blooms and way with color have made her the city’s go-to-source for flowers, while her stores’ interiors provide the perfect backdrop for her floral creations, with black walls and racks of under-the-radar magazines. In her own words: "When I designed the shop, I knew exactly what I wanted—the pared-down aesthetic and dark tones of a European boutique, with great music." Mission accomplished.
