In 2008, Swedish designers Malin Bäccman and Fia Berglund combined their shared expertise in metals and jewelry design to found Bäccman & Berglund, purveyor of top-quality residential hardware including hooks, handles, and knobs. The Bäccman & Berglund range is offered in a variety of solid metals and finishes, including collection staples brushed and polished brass, plus copper, aluminum, and steel. Each piece is made by hand in Sweden, and the company ships worldwide—including standard delivery to the US in less than 10 days. Here, a few of our favorites.
Above: We first learned of Bäccman & Berglund while covering Australian design firm Hecker Guthrie‘s Melbourne Victorian overhaul; the designers used the brand’s Dot cabinet pulls in the kitchen. Above: Pieces from the Dot series function as drawer knobs in the Melbourne kitchen, but can also be used as wall hooks. They’re available in nine finishes, including the polished brass shown here, and come in a variety of sizes starting at $21 each for the smallest, 3/4-inch size. Above: The Curve Hook is a wall-mounted clothes and towel hanger made of solid brushed brass. It’s almost 2 inches long and comes with two mounting screws; $23 each. Above: This recessed Sliding Door Handle comes in four finishes and is 2 inches in diameter; $21 each. Above: The Line handle has a minimalist look but feels substantial to the touch. It comes in three finishes (black chrome, polished brass, and the brushed brass shown here) and two sizes, starting at $71 for a 12-inch-long handle. Above: Drop is a balloon-shaped knob available in eight finishes and two sizes, starting at $24 for the polished brass, 1-inch version shown here. Above: The Line knob is a modern T-shape that can also be used as a hook. Available in four finishes including the polished brass shown here, it’s 2-1/4 inches long and $42. Above: The Clean Cut series of handles comes in six finishes, seven sizes, and both solid and cutout styles, starting at $43. The longest, cutout version shown here is $128 in polished brass.
